SHAPE & PLACING

TREEIB® 1500 is a quarter circle shape. Its 1,1 m / 3,6 ft width and over 6 m length, makes it ideal for irrigation along the canopy drip line and beyond. One bag can be used, then relocated after emptying, or a combination of two or more, if so desired.

TREEIB® 1500 is a large heavy duty irrigation bag, designed especially for large and mature trees, watering with a maximum volume of 1500 liters / 396 US gal of water.

It is designed especially for use on grass and gravel surfaces. TREEIB® 1500 should be used as a preventive, as well as a cure measure, against the negative consequences resulting from various stress factors that affect trees.

SHAPE & PLACING

When four TREEIB® 1500's are put together, a circle of 7 m / 23 ft diameter is created.

If the canopy drip line is further than 3,5 meters from the trunk center, bags can be moved further from the tree trunk to follow the canopy drip line.

It does not matter, if there are wide spaces in-between the bags, this will not affect the effectivity of the watering.

Where the tree needs more than 6000 liters of water, more than 4 bags can be used to evenly distribute it over the area where we can assume there is a high percentage of tree feeder roots.

FILLING CYLINDER

A 40cm-tall filling-cylinder, joined to the bag opening (15 cm / 5,9 inch in diameter, so it can be filled with a fire hose), is equipped with a side squeeze plastic clip with D rings. It helps to hold the water-source hose in place, and the cylinder makes it possible to fill the bag to maximum capacity even on uneven surfaces or slopes.

Water can be filled up to 20 cm below the top of the cylinder. When the bag is full the cylinder is rolled up into position, the clip is fastened shut and the D rings can be locked by a locking mechanism, e.g. a padlock with a shock alarm, as described on the Safety page.

FILLING

The bag can be filled either from a hydrant, a professional water tanker, a fire truck or a garden hose.

The time it takes to fill, depends on the output of the water source. While a professional water tanker can fill up TREEIB® 1500 in five minutes, filling it with a 1/2" garden hose takes about an hour. The clip on the filling cylinder is handy for this case - Insert the garden hose as deeply as possible into the bag, fold down the filling cylinder once, and fasten the clip. The hose is thus fixed into position, which ensures that it can be left well alone, until the bag is filled.

Even if you use IBC containers to transport the water, the bag can be filled with less than 1500 liters of water anyway, and it will still work perfectly.  Just be aware that less water, equates a shorter water-release time.

WATER RELEASING

Water seeps out, via 27 openings, which are distributed evenly over the bottom area of the bag.

The time of the water release depends on the surface under the bag. The standard time for water release on turf, is 8-12 hours.

In places where the surface is rough or uneven (like crushed stone of a large diameter), the water release time can be shorter. In places where the surface is smoother, such as sawn stone paving with narrow joints, the release time would typically be longer.

USE ON A SLOPE

The TREEIB® 1500 bag is designed so that it can be safely used on slopes of up to 30°. There are 4 stabilizing straps, that are used for anchoring it in place.

Trees that grow on sloping grounds form the largest part of their root system upwards and downwards, following the gradient of the slope. There will be little root system growing horizontally along the line of the slope, if there are no other forces, such as wind, acting against the trees.

With any tree, growing on a slope, you should always water the higher ground, above the tree trunk. Water will naturally percolate through the soil downwards, thanks to gravity.

Place the bag in a suitable spot. Site it so that it is placed along the contour - perpendicularly to the slope - so that the edges are located lower than the filling hole, thus the inner side of the arc is oriented towards the trunk.

Attach the stabilization straps to the bag, in regular intervals, along the entire length of the bag. The straps should be placed, facing downwards on the sloping ground. Tighten the straps so that they are as taut as possible. Using the eyelets facing the ground, and are sited upwards on the slope, thread the anchoring pins through. It is possible to use steel rebars with a diameter of approx. 10-15 mm, with a length of at least 30 cm, or wooden stakes with a diameter of approx. 25 mm, and a length of 30 cm. Place the pins through the eyelets above the bag, facing upwards on the slope, never below the bag, facing downwards on the slope. On a steep slope with loose, eroding, or dry soil, drive in the pins at a right angle, towards the slope. Never hammer them downwards, on the slope, they will not be as effective. Be careful to minimize damage to the tree root system.

Watering trees on sloping surfaces, has always been a problem. Now, there is a solution that can reliably solve this difficulty. Learn to use TREEIB® properly, and the trees that grow on sloping grounds will appreciate it. Trees will grow perfectly, even if they have already been damaged by drought. They will and can gradually regenerate.

ATTENTION

Be aware that a bag filled with 1500 litres of water weighs 1.5 tons, which is the weight of a medium-sized car. If a bag of this weight falls down a slope, it can cause serious injuries to anybody in the way. Therefore, it is important to pay thorough attention to the anchoring, and make sure the anchoring pins are securely fitted as well.
